The College of Science and Engineering (CSE) currently offers the largest selection of programs within the university and aspires to be a leading college committed to excellence in research and education with a major emphasis on interdisciplinary research and scholarship. It has established three divisions: the Division of Information and Computing Technology, the Division of Sustainable Development, and the Division of Engineering Management and Decisions Sciences. CSE faculty members are internationally recognized for pursuing high-impact research addressing societal and economic needs in Qatar and globally.
Hamad Bin Khalifa University’s College of Science and Engineering (CSE) seeks applications for the Post Doc position. The applicant will be responsible for contributing to the advancement of the research objectives of the supervisor and HBKU.
- Conduct research under supervision as a member of the research team or under the direct supervision of a Principal Investigator (PI) or, where appropriate, semi-independently to contribute to a defined area of research.
- Facilitate the development of new research objectives, methodology, and solutions relating to the field of research.
- Perform day-to-day research activities and ensure proper and accurate documentation storage and archiving of data for future referencing.
- Develop and design prototypes utilizing appropriate tools, methodologies, and techniques to achieve the required results of the project/research.
- Contribute to high-impact research focused on infrastructure resilience, particularly addressing vulnerabilities in industrial, transportation, water, and power supply networks.
- Understanding of Techno economic assessment and life cycle analysis.
- Optimization and modeling.
- Create reports on research findings and recommendations from the conducted analysis and research to present to the appropriate research committees.
- Develop presentations related to research activities intended for cross-functional teams, research groups, PIs, and others, as appropriate.
- Assist faculty and PIs in supervising Master’s and PhD students in relevant labs and for theses/dissertation committees.
- Engage with interdisciplinary teams to develop strategies for mitigating risks associated with climate change and other disruptions.
- Perform literature searches, attend scientific meetings, and keep abreast of literature & technology in own field; participate in the writing of scientific papers and other scholarly outputs as needed.
- Develop and maintain networks within the national and international research community to increase knowledge and research skills and enhance the reputation of HBKU research.
- Conduct research in compliance with ethical and safety standards, as required by University policies.
- Other reasonable tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
- PhD in a field relevant to the research conducted & 0-3 years of relevant research experience as a postdoc.
- Experience interpreting technical data and creating concise reports of the same.
- Knowledge of qualitative research methods and tools (e.g., surveys, questionnaires, focus groups, stakeholder mapping).
- Quantitative skills in modeling, simulation, and network analysis, and proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Python, R).
- Strong knowledge of applicable research regulations.
- Excellent writing skills, with the ability to draft and edit a variety of written reports & communications and articulate ideas clearly and concisely. Arabic proficiency is a plus.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration across disciplines.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications and the technology of common equipment found in relevant labs.
