Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute (QEERI), part of Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), is a national research institute tasked with supporting Qatar in addressing its grand challenges related to energy, water, and environment.

Hamad Bin Khalifa University’s Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute (QEERI) seeks applications for the Senior Scientist position with a PhD in Analytical or Environmental Chemistry. The applicant must have strong expertise in chromatography, mass spectrometry, and the analysis of emerging contaminants in environmental matrices.
- Lead studies on the fate and transport of emerging contaminants, including PFAS, 1,4-dioxane, pesticides, and other emerging contaminants.
- Oversee projects monitoring human metabolites and environmental contaminants in wastewater.
- Lead the application of spectroscopic and chromatographic techniques, including GC-MS, LC-MS/MS, ICP-MS, and HPLC.
- Develop and validate high-resolution mass spectrometry methods.
- Identify trace-level identification of PFAS, pharmaceuticals, microplastics, polyaliphatics, polyaromatics, micropollutants, and/or pesticides from various environmental matrices.
- Other reasonable tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
- Facilitate regular interactions with research and industry partners to advance collaborative projects.
- Provide support for the institute's special projects and key research initiatives, contributing to strategic goals.
- Experience working within an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory is a plus.
- Candidate must have a PhD in organic, analytical, or environmental chemistry with 6+ years of experience and a strong publication record.
- Excellent oral and written communication in English; knowledge of Arabic is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research, including method development, sample preparation, and publication of research papers and reports.
- Strong knowledge of laboratory safety, quality processes, and adaptability to a multicultural environment.
- Candidates must be willing to relocate permanently to Qatar.
