College collaborated with UNOCT and Qatar Charity to host panel discussion highlighting how non-state actors can tackle Islamophobia within their communities
Hamad Bin Khalifa University’s (HBKU) College of Public Policy (CPP) marked the United Nations’ International Day to Combat Islamophobia by co-hosting a panel discussion with the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) and Qatar Charity.
Titled “Countering Islamophobia: The Role of Non-State Actors,” the discussion highlighted the various forms of Islamophobia and their political and societal impact, before focusing on how non-state actors can combat this phenomenon in their own communities.
Moderated by Dr. Evren Tok, Associate Dean of Community Engagement, CPP, the panel featured renowned experts including Dr. Ibrahim Saleh Al Nuaimi, Chairperson, Doha International Center for Interfaith Dialogue, and Dr. Aynabat Atayeva, Head of Office, UNOCT’s International Hub on Behavioural Insights to Counter Terrorism. Additional HBKU contributions were provided by Dr. Frank Peter, Associate Professor, HBKU’s College of Islamic Studies and Dr. Hira Amin, Post-Doctoral Research, CPP.
