QBRI Scientist Elected to Royal Society of Biology

Dr. Julie Decock, Scientist at the Qatar Biomedical Research Institute (QBRI) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), has been elected as a member of the prestigious Royal Society of Biology (RSB), the UK’s national academy of science and the oldest scientific academy in continuous existence. This noteworthy recognition is an acknowledgement of Dr. Decock’s scientific scholarship and her work leading a research team at the Translational Cancer and Immunity Center, QBRI. The team focuses on tumor target discovery and tumor immunology in breast cancer. Her achievements in these two key research areas have contributed to the identification of highly tumor specific molecules, cancer testis antigens, that can be targeted with minimal side effects and alleviate immunosuppression. Dr. Decock’s election also helps position the local scientific community in Qatar on a global scale. As part of its mission, the RSB promotes new discoveries in biological science for national and international benefit, and engages and encourages public interest in the life sciences. RSB membership is awarded by the society’s council to individuals for their professional standing and achievements and its members include eminent scientists and Nobel prize winners. The society represents a single unified voice for biology that advises the government, influences policy, and advances education and professional development.
