Dr. Monem H. Beitelmal, Principal Scientist, Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute (QEERI), has been elected a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). This distinction, which recognizes excellence and dedication in the engineering profession, is awarded to individuals who have made major contributions to the field. Fewer than 5% of ASME members worldwide achieve this status, emphasizing the significance of this achievement.
With a career spanning over two decades, Dr. Beitelmal has authored more than 150 scientific publications and holds over 60 granted utility patents. His innovations in heat transfer, energy efficiency, and mechanical system optimization have had an impact on both industry and academia. Beyond his technical contributions, Dr. Beitelmal has played a role as an educator, journal editor, and mentor, helping shape the next generation of engineers and researchers. Being named an ASME Fellow underscores Dr. Beitelmal’s expertise and leadership in mechanical engineering and sustainable energy. It also reflects the standard of scientific quality upheld at QEERI, where researchers are committed to addressing global challenges through innovation and collaboration.
The announcement was made during a QEERI seminar featuring Professor Jorge E. González-Cruz, who delivered a lecture titled "On the Nexus of Climate, Energy, and Air Quality in Complex Urban Environments." Prof. González-Cruz addressed critical urban challenges, including the interplay of energy consumption, air quality, and climate change, offering innovative solutions for cities such as New York and Houston.
Professor González-Cruz, a SUNY Empire Innovation Professor at the University at Albany, is an expert in urban sustainability and climate modeling. With over 100 peer-reviewed publications and several patents, his work bridges scientific research and practical applications to address urban resilience.
Founded in 1880, ASME is a leading international organization with over 72,000 members, focused on promoting the art, science, and practice of engineering worldwide. The ASME Fellowship recognizes individuals who have demonstrated engineering accomplishments and dedication to advancing the profession.
