Entrepreneurship

Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development is organizing Souqna, an HBKU bazaar, on October 6th – 8th. Held at the HBKU Student Center from 11:00 AM – 9:00 PM on Thursday, October 6th and from 3:00 PM – 9:00 PM on Friday and Saturday, October 7th and 8th, the event will showcase local, entrepreneurial, small-scale businesses to the Education City community.

In addition to inviting students and their families to Souqna, members of the public from across Qatar are also welcome to attend and sample what’s on offer.

HBKU has created the bazaar to be a platform to enhance social engagement between the community within Education City and the general public, allowing students to learn more about entrepreneurship from local business owners. The event will expose students, and accompanying family members and friends, to a range of cultures, providing attendees with the opportunity to experience the rich diversity that is celebrated by HBKU and its partners in Education City.

Students will also have the chance to learn more about local start-ups and flex their entrepreneurial thinking skills as they browse the products and services on display and hear success stories from members of the community.

Maryam Hamad Al-Mannai, Vice President of Student Affairs at HBKU, commented: “At HBKU, we take great pride in celebrating our Qatari culture and heritage, as well as the cultures of people from other nationalities who are based within our community, and we look forward to welcoming entrepreneurs from across Qatar to the HBKU Student Center. We are fortunate to have a diverse group of vendors and start-ups signed up to showcase their goods and services at Souqna, HBKU Bazaar, and visitors to the various stalls will get an interesting glimpse into what is currently being created by talented entrepreneurs in Qatar.”

“This event is an example of how HBKU is very much a part of the wider Qatari community. In particular, it brings students face-to-face with local entrepreneurs and encourages innovative thought and research as they work to tackle challenges faced by Qatar and the region.”

In line with HBKU’s aim to be a national resource of knowledge that seeks to enrich the government, industry and society in Qatar, Souqna offers local entrepreneurs direct access to the HBKU community and opens the door for further exchange and collaboration in the future.
