Prospective graduate students will be offered a unique chance to experience a taste of academic life at a special Graduate Open House held by Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU).
HBKU, a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science, and Community Development, is opening its doors to welcome those interested in enrolling on graduate programs from 4.30pm to 8.30pm on Tuesday, November 22nd at the HBKU Student Center in Education City.
Faculty members, deans, admissions staff, and current students will be available to meet with prospective students and answer questions about the programs on offer, as well as the admissions process at HBKU. In addition, attendees will have the chance to experience a range of sample class activities offeredby HBKU professors, providing interested candidates with a glimpse into their potential futures.There will also be demonstrations by professors of projects currently being undertaken at HBKU.
HBKU offers graduate degrees in the fields of cyber security, data science, computer science and engineering, sustainability, biological and biomedical sciences, law, translation studies, audiovisual translation, Islamic studies, Islamic finance, and energy and resources. All will be represented at Tuesday’s event.
As part of a full and diverse program, Dr. JoséliaNeves, Associate Professor at HBKU’s College of Humanities and Social Sciences will give attendees the opportunity to interact withthe “Art Translates”inclusive art project undertaken by her students that allows blind people to enjoy paintings through touch and audio descriptionand Dr. Antoine Hyafil, Director of Academic Programs at HBKU’s Executive Education Center,will host an interactive discussion that centers on the challenges facing the energy and resource sector.
Dr. Tarek Al Ansari, Assistant Professor with the College of Science and Engineering will consider sustainable development as the key to the future and professors from the College of Law and Public Policy willbe exploring a legal problem with attendees of the Graduate Open House and showing innovative ways to solve them, echoing an approach taken in class and in the college’s “Legal Lab”.

Those attending the Open House will be given the opportunity to briefly immerse themselves in student life at HBKU, which is home to exceptional faculty and innovative research projects.”
Those interested in pursuing graduate study in the sciences, will also be able to learn about research internships and mentorship available to HBKU students through the HBKU College of Science and Engineering’s emphasis on close collaboration with the University’s three prestigious research institutes: Qatar Biomedical Research Institute (QBRI), Qatar Computing Research Institute (QCRI), and Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute (QEERI).
Dr. Khaled Ben Letaief, Provost at HBKU, added: “HBKU’s academic offerings have grown considerably in recent years, with the Graduate Open House providing prospective students the opportunity to learn about our unique and innovative graduate programs that are designed to cultivate leaders for the future and propel Qatar’s knowledge-based economy. These programs are also not only fairly new to HBKU, but new to the region as well, such as our Juris Doctor graduate law program, our program in audiovisual translation, and our master’s program in data science and engineering.”
