We’re excited to announce the upcoming HBKU’s summer STEM programs! The STEM Outreach team is looking for creative future engineers and scientists to join us in our STEM Hub laboratory for a week of fun and hands-on learning.
Registration is now open for all programs and closes on 22 May. Please apply only once per person, and only to programs appropriate for your grade level.
Space is very limited. Participants will be chosen based upon your answers to our registration questions and your passion for exciting engineering. No ChatGPT or AI answers please - we want to hear from you! Notification emails will be sent out on 29 May.
One of our most popular programs is back! Students in grades 6-12 are invited to design and build their own pinewood derby cars. In this American tradition, you’ll turn a simple block of wood into an unpowered, unmanned miniature car and gravity race them down the track. While having fun racing, you’ll also explore engineering concepts such as potential and kinetic energy, friction, air resistance, and statistics. We expect you to be both creative and innovative in your racer’s design and performance. Participants will use science and physics to engineer the fastest car in Qatar!
We’re hosting three sessions of Pinewood Derby Engineering; two sessions for grades 6-8, and one session for grades 9-12. Please apply only to the session that matches your expected grade level in Fall 2025.
- Pinewood Derby Session 1 (Grades 6-8 only): 29 June - 3 July, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.
- Pinewood Derby Session 2 (Grades 6-8 only): 6 - 10 July, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.
- Pinewood Derby Session 3 (Grades 9-12 only): 13 - 17 July, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.
