Participants engaged in a series of discussions on how the global insurance sector is transforming as it adopts new technologies and responds to consumer demands.

Education City’s Minaretein Building was the location for the 9th CEOs and Islamic Finance Leaders Roundtable. Hosted by the College of Islamic Studies (CIS), the event invited stakeholders from business and academia to discuss key topics shaping Islamic finance and their alignment with national and global trends.

Held February 4 under the theme Insurance as a Catalyst for Qatar National Vision 2030, discussions were informed by a global insurance sector undergoing significant transformation as insurers adopt new technologies and respond to changing consumer demands. To this end, insurers are increasingly integrating AI and other advanced technologies into their businesses to enhance customer experience and operational efficiency. Closer to home, Qatar’s insurance sector is integral to the Qatar Central Bank’s (QCB) Third Financial Sector Strategic Plan (2024–2030) and its vision for modernization and growth across all financial industries.

Following opening remarks by Dr. Recep Şentürk, Dean, CIS, proceedings commenced with keynote addresses by Mr. Yousuf Mohamed Al-Jaida, Chief Executive Officer, Qatar Financial Centre (QFC), and Sheikh Mohammed Ahmed Al Thani, Director, Insurance Supervision Department, Qatar Central Bank (QCB). Participants then engaged in a series of discussions covering operational efficiency and synergies, insurance for national development, and regulatory cohesion and Shari’ah governance. The event was moderated by Dr. Ahmet Faruk Aysan, Associate Dean for Research and Professor of Islamic Finance, CIS.

Reflecting on proceedings, Dr. Şentürk commented: “The CEOs and Islamic Finance Leaders Roundtable has become an essential feature of efforts to advance Qatar National Vision 2030. In this respect, Qatar’s insurers have a crucial role to play in the fulfilment of the country’s long-term development goals. Doing so requires even closer alignment of Qatar’s insurance industry with global trends shaping the sector.”

The CIS looks forward to hosting further editions of the CEOs and Islamic Finance Leaders Roundtable. Information concerning the college’s public program of events can be found here.
