OVPR Convenes Global Experts for Quantum Computing Workshop
Inaugural edition of OVPR’s HorizonHub Workshop series highlights university’s commitment to advancing quantum technologies in Qatar
Hamad Bin Khalifa University’s (HBKU) Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) inaugurated its HorizonHub Workshop series with a special session highlighting trends, challenges and opportunities in Quantum Computing research.
Led by Dr. Saif Al-Kuwari, Associate Professor, College of Science and Engineering (CSE), the workshop convened renowned experts for discussions on the current state of quantum computing. It also underscored HBKU's and Qatar Center for Quantum Computing’s (QC2) roles in driving innovation and addressing real-world challenges and leveraging opportunities through quantum technologies.
Commenting on the workshop, Dr. Al-Kuwari said: “Quantum computing has the potential to revolutionize many industries, such as energy, finance, logistics and healthcare, as it could help solve problems beyond the reach of conventional computers. Through initiatives like this workshop, OVPR and QC2 seek to build Qatar’s research capabilities in this emerging field by fostering a vibrant quantum ecosystem in Qatar supported by a network of productive partnerships with academic and industry partners from around the world.”
Dr. Artur Ekert, Professorial Fellow in Quantum Physics and Cryptography, University of Oxford; Dr. Barry Sanders, Scientific Director of Quantum City, University of Calgary; André M. König, Chief Executive Officer, Global Quantum Intelligence; and Dr. David Shaw, Chief Analyst, Global Quantum Intelligence, exchanged insights on the field’s transformative potential and its implications for various sectors.
Attendees, including representatives from major national stakeholders and international organizations, engaged with the participants in discussions about the transformative potential of quantum technologies across various sectors.
The HorizonHub Workshop series aims to provide a collaborative platform for researchers, academics, and thought leaders to come together and discuss important research topics, explore future trends and opportunities that can shape the future.
