HBKU Enrollment Campaign 2024-25: College of Public Policy
HBKU’s current students are among the strongest advocates for the academic programs offered by its six colleges. These include the CPP’s Elaf Saleh Hassan Burgeia, who encourages prospective students to experience the university’s enriching academic and cultural experience for themselves.
What inspired you to pursue postgraduate studies with HBKU?
The decision to pursue postgraduate studies at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) was driven by a combination of factors that aligned with my academic and career aspirations. HBKU's renowned Master of Public Policy (MPP) program presented a unique opportunity to delve deeper into my passion for policy analysis and contribute meaningfully to societal development. HBKU's location in Doha also played a pivotal role in my decision. Qatar's vibrant cultural scene and dynamic environment at Education City foster an atmosphere conducive to academic achievement and personal development. The opportunity to be part of a global community of scholars and engage in cross-disciplinary collaboration was an additional motivating factor.
How did HBKU help you to adjust and settle into life at Education City?
HBKU demonstrated an exceptional commitment to ensuring a smooth transition into life at Education City. From the outset, the university facilitated orientation sessions that provided comprehensive information about academic resources, campus facilities, and support services. These sessions were instrumental in helping me understand the university's structure and academic expectations, making the initial adjustment period much more manageable.
The inclusive and supportive community at HBKU, consisting of faculty, staff, and fellow students, further eased the transition, creating a sense of belonging from the beginning. The university's commitment to student welfare was evident through various support mechanisms, including academic advisors who offered guidance on course selection and career planning. This holistic approach to student life at Education City contributed significantly to my overall wellbeing and sense of belonging.
What activities are you involved in outside of your studies?
Outside of my academic commitments, I actively engage in various activities that contribute to my personal and professional development, including workshops offered by the College of Public Policy and other HBKU entities. By striking a balance between academic pursuits and extracurricular activities, I aim to develop into a well-rounded individual with a versatile approach to both personal and professional growth. HBKU hosts a multitude of insightful talks featuring speakers from around the world and diverse academic backgrounds. These sessions serve as valuable platforms for delving into a wide array of topics, fostering an environment of intellectual exploration and knowledge exchange.
Do you have a message for anybody interested in studying at HBKU?
For those contemplating studies at HBKU, I wholeheartedly encourage you to embrace the enriching academic and cultural experience that this institution offers. HBKU's unwavering commitment to academic excellence, coupled with its diverse and dynamic community, creates a unique educational environment that nurtures both intellectual and personal growth. The MPP has not only expanded my knowledge but also provided invaluable opportunities for networking, collaboration, and real world application of theoretical concepts.
I also recommend exploring the myriad resources and support services that HBKU provides to ensure a smooth transition into academic life. Take advantage of the vibrant extracurricular scene at Education City, as it offers a chance to connect with likeminded personalities, and participate in activities that align with your interests.
