CL Professor Wins Anti-Corruption Excellence Award

Dr. Ilias Bantekas recognized for his work in the anti-corruption space

Dr. Ilias Bantekas received the Safeguarding Sports from Corruption Award for his contributions toward the advancement of regulatory and contractual aspects of sports law.

The College of Law’s Professor Ilias Bantekas was among the recipients of the eighth edition of the Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani International Anti-Corruption Excellence Award. Organized in cooperation with the United Nations, the Award recognizes individuals and organizations that have contributed to the global campaign against corruption.

During a ceremony at the National Conference and Convention Center, San Jose, Costa Rica, attended by His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of Qatar, Dr. Bantekas received the award for Safeguarding Sports from Corruption. The accolade reflects his dedication to tackling corruption in the global sports sector, including through his expert writings and other contributions that have helped build regulatory and contractual aspects of sports law.

Acknowledging Dr. Bantekas’s award, Susan L. Karamanian, Dean, HBKU College of Law, said: “On behalf of everyone at the college and wider university, I’d like to congratulate Professor Bantekas on this magnificent achievement. His recognition as a global advocate for a corruption-free sports landscape is rightly deserved and is another indicator of the College of Law’s growing international reputation for quality and innovation in teaching and research.”
